The years covered in this episode were especially formative for me. My freshman residency in punk was quickly becoming a lifelong endeavor. I also lived in Minneapolis during most of this time and blew at least every other paycheck at Extreme Noise. I probably spent more money at 2524 Nicollet than anywhere else. If I recall, there was a Vietnamese restaurant a few doors down that became a regular stop after each week’s purchases to eat mock duck and admire the spoils. I was also going to shows all the time – including many in the basement of the store – and eagerly indulging in the life, the records, and the fun. This episode roughly captures the great music I discovered at Extreme Noise’s second location on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis.
Some of the bands and songs in this episode overlap with the previous one (1994 – 1997) but these times were such a damn whirlwind of discovery and adventure that some of it bleeds together. So it goes.
