I love Japanese punk rock. The insanity of the music that comes out of that island blows any other country away. I don’t recall what my first introduction to Japanese punk was (probably Gauze or the Kamikaze Attacked America / Yankee Bombed Hiroshima, Nagasaki comp), but I ate it up regardless. Soon, I was buying any and all records associated with Japan in any way. My favorite was the wild stuff that MCR Company was putting out. I would blow whole paychecks at Extreme Noise in Minneapolis on records, hunting down everything I could find from Japan.
I’ve only scratched the surface with this episode, which is why I have a part-two on deck. If you’re a fan of Japanese punk, I’d love to hear what your favorite bands and albums are–and what’s missing from these episodes.
I hope you enjoy this introductory course. There’s more to come.
